Salme (Sally) Leanore Reevits born in Talinn, Estonia on 18 July 1916. She’d been advised to leave Estonia as she was too outspoken about the Russians and there was concern for her welfare.

To avoid being taken to Siberia she married Gottfried Sinisoff and escaped across Europe to England, before arriving by boat in Australia during the 'open door policy' era, and became a citizen in 1955. She claims arriving on the boat into Sydney Harbour was the happiest day of her life.

She had a great zest for life, an effervescent personality, and loved a glass of wine in the afternoon with friends. 

She was a passionate member of the Canberra Estonian community actively engaging in its activities including traditional dancing. Her love of dancing saw her keenly support the Australian Ballet. She was such a keen supporter that when she became too ill to attend their performances they sent her a bouquet of roses.  A gift she was thrilled to receive.

Her later years saw her suffer from Macular Degeneration.  This degeneration facilitated a close relationship with Vision Australia.

It was her passion to help others with eye difficulties that saw her establish under her Will the Sally Sinisoff Memorial Trust Fund.

She bequeathed the larger part of her estate to this perpetual Trust Fund and the annual investment income is paid to Vision Australia.
